Clyde Middle School was originally built in 1917 and added a small wing in 1923. The heavy masonry interior and exterior load bearing walls with heavy timber flooring is listed on the National Register of Historic Places under the Town Graded School subtype of the Collegiate Gothic Revival style. The architect, Lorentz Schmidt, was born and raised in Clyde and became one of the most accomplished architects in Kansas history, widely known for public schools in the early 20th century.
Foutch Brothers purchased the building in late 2008, and renovated the building into 16 units. The property includes one, two, and three bedroom apartments, plus retains the basement gymnasium and 2nd floor auditorium and stage.
